Alone in a cabin on the lake was spooky at night – there was something on my roof, clambering around. It was probably a possum. That’s cold comfort when you’re up on an isolated Tamar Valley hill and your phone doesn’t work.
The first panel – Where Do Ideas Come From? Starring humourous and clever Tansy Roberts, charming and endearing Nick Earls, divine chairman Russell Eldridge, fascinating, best selling Paula Boer and me.
Spare a thought for the chairperson next time you’re at a festival. Russell had to read 28 books, for a number of panels he chaired, and he was exceptionally well prepared with a range of interesting questions, ideas, prompts and observations. A good chairperson will make or break the panel! Russell was outstanding.
Nick Earls was delightful – as an audience member, my sister commented on his passion and sincerity as a story teller. A very genuine man – particularly considering the success he has enjoyed/endured. I don’t know how people keep up the energy to attend writers events – I could have slept for a week when I got home, and I locked myself away from the world every day. I was worn out from talking about my book. Tansy and I keep crossing paths as we have both written Tassie crime novels. And Paula writes best selling YA novels about brumbies in the snowy mountains – she’s a lovely lady.
Stay tuned for more posts on my experience at the Festival of Golden Words.
