Welcome to my first blog post.
When I was writing my novel Bay of Fires, I spent some time on Tasmania’s east coast. I took heaps of photos and I pinned my favourite pics to a cork board and hung it on my wall. Later, if ever I was searching for inspiration as I sat writing at my kitchen table in Queensland, 3000km away from the Bay of Fires, I would look at my picture board and ideas would quickly come. This photo was taken in a nearby village, the picturesque Binalong Bay. Binalong is an Aboriginal word that means ‘toward a high place’. The village has a lovely old wharf surrounded by gum trees and old fishing shacks. I’ve imagined a similar type of jetty and wharf in my fictional Bay of Fires village.
